Mindfulness is a skill that allows us to shift our relationship to the thoughts and reactions that color and shape the way we experience the events and circumstances of our lives. It can be practiced by anyone, whatever their religious or cultural background, is safe, easy to learn, and opens the way to clear, creative states of mind. It is a proven effective approach to the treatment of stress, depression, and chronic pain. This four hour workshop, will introduce a range of exercises to help participants learn new ways of paying attention to the flow of experience, one more rooted in the present moment rather than in assumptions based on the past or imagined outcomes. The exercises are simple and accessible, but can have a powerful effect on one's ability to handle difficult situations, feelings and moods, even painful physical sensations and chronic illness. About the Instructors: Nagabodhi (Terry Pilchick) has been teaching mindfulness and meditation for over 40 years, and currently runs mindfulness courses, workshops, and private coaching in the southwest of England (http://www.mindfulness-west.com/). Although discovering meditation in a Buddhist context, Nagabodhi is well versed in the secular applications of mindfulness. He has completed the Teacher Development course run by the University of Bangor's Centre for Mindfulness Research and practice and the Breathworks Foundation's mindfulness-based pain management program. He has also trained with Jon Kabat-Zinn, Chris Cullen and Antonia Sumbundu, Michael Chaskalson, and with  Breathing Space, a London-based project offering mindfulness-based courses for depression and addiction, where he developed a mindfulness-based program for quitting smokers. Sunada Takagi lives in the Boston area, where she teaches classes in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and coaches individual clients in living more mindful, purposeful lives (www.mindfulpurpose.com). She received her training through the Center for Mindfulness at the UMass Medical Center. Sunada was ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order in 2004 and has been teaching meditation and mindfulness in both Buddhist and secular contexts ever since.
